winter projects

this panel has been in my garage for YEARS!! left by the previous owners, you can still see a hint of red paint from “lordy lordy, somebody turning 40”.

my plan: re-attach legs, chalkboard paint, area for xl sketchpad, maybe cork tree on other side…

Spencer’s new art center!!

As the year winds down I find myself working on specific projects tailored to individual orders. People have so many great ideas and to be able to make just a few of these come to life on clay is wonderful! Thank you to everyone for supporting your favorite potters, artists & friends! Thank you for new ideas! Have a fantastic rest of the year!

Greensboro Farmer’s CURB market

I have been making colanders and wind chimes! So much fun for Spring!

I’m excited to see the grass growing, and today with this beautiful rain. The new leaves and buds are forming on the tops of the trees. It’s the true delicateness of nature. Well, back into the studio to carve flowers and dragonflies and watch the birds gather at their feeders!

fall events

i just updated the events on my website tagawacollection.com! i’ve been busy lovingly making beautiful pottery pieces for Asheboro’s Fall Festival XXXVIII (October 2nd & 3rd)! last year was the first year i participated, what a wonderful weekend in my hometown!

the 14th Annual Triad Fall Pottery Festival is also right around the corner (Sunday October 24th). this is held in Greensboro at the Farmer’s Curb Market across from War Memorial Stadium. i LOVE the charm of this location, it makes for a perfect Sunday.

i hope everyone gets out for breaths of fresh air, great sites and support of local arts!

what i listen to while i work…

for the love of podcasts! while i’m sitting at my wheel spinning mud making a total mess of my arms, knees and floor i’m listening, learning. filling my brain and the brain of my child with wonderful knowledge! i’ll be able to impress my friends with facts, stories, critical moments in history. well maybe snippets, half-snippets if i’m lucky, actually just listen to the podcast yourself because i’ve probably “done forgot”.

i’m inspired to cook with wonderful fresh ingredients after listening to Lynn on “The Splendid Table”. she knows how to get you out of any cooking rut by mentally taking you to places with imagery so fantastic you can smell it.

then there’s Click and Clack, why is it so funny to listen to two old guys crack themselves up? did you hear the one about the guy building a pottery wheel from an old manual transmission? and i finally answered a puzzler! wonder if i’m gonna win $26 from the shameless commerce division.

Chuck and Josh always have something new on “Stuff You Should Know”.  i’ve listened to every - single - episode they’ve broadcast. which brought me to “Stuff Your Mom Didn’t Tell You” and “Stuff You Missed in History Class”. all equally as entertaining.

and by the way, i know that’s ira glass - it’s an inside joke

what does that leave me with, oh yes - Carl Kassall with “Wait Wait, Don’t Tell Me”. i love it! and who could forget Garrison Keillor, maybe that’s what i should name my firstborn!

one day i’ll go to a live recording, all clean & pretty with no mud about my elbows or in the fringe of my hair…

pregnancy, pottery & yoga

in the early months of pregnancy i often wondered if i would still be able to reach the potters wheel, if i would be rolling around the yoga mat instead of downward facing dog… well tonight at yoga i could really feel my belly, or should i say my son, nudging my stances even wider still. then in a cross-legged forward bend i felt him kick as to say - hey lady, what are you doing?! ‘how cute’ i thought as I smiled to myself.

today in front of the potters wheel i was quite happy with the pieces i turned. this belly’s not in the way yet! but i remember what my dad told me on the phone the other night, “you’re going to get huge the last month! like a watermelon!” i loved his emphasis, ‘thanks dad’ i thought! but i’m sure he’s right, hard to avoid the inevitable!

i have 2 more months to see where this takes me in my work & in my yoga. thank goodness for gentle classes!
